social change

What is the relationship between individual experience and societal transformation? How do people engage with material culture, the environment, and the body in ways that shape this relationship—through craftsmanship as decolonial healing in Sápmi, revivals of local production as sustainable practice in postcolonial Cyprus, or the imagining of global infrastructures as community making across the melting Arctic? Through my research and writing in the academy and beyond, I explore people’s strivings for connection to local ecologies, lands, community, culture, heritage, and the past, and how these form national and international Indigenous and environmental movements. On many of these questions, I work with artisans to explore the generative potentials of collaborative ethnography.
